of lactobacillus is in a spore form. Some bacteria are capable of
forming spores, which are resistant to destruction.
Spores are like plant seeds: they can remain alive for
years, and when they encounter the optimal environment for growth, will
open up and turn into a new plant. Lactobacillus sporogenes will remain
viable and healthy for years.
Once in the small intestine, a spore will sporulate,
meaning it will open up and grow. It then gets to work, helping to
support the colon and the maintenance of healthy bowel movement.
